overview

Online pedigrees is a web based pedigree application. We have a database containing over 50,000 pedigrees entered by users, and growing!. Over 4,000 of those pedigrees have a picture as well. Access to these pedigrees is available through the website. The website provides a search tool to find dog pedigrees. Each dog name is a link to that dog's 4 generation pedigree, which can include up to 3 pictures as well. Here's a sample, Nocturnal Nailor's pedigree as displayed by the website. The website can also display offspring listings, siblings listings and a nice tool that displays the genetic contribution of each dog's ancestor in the first 4 generations. This allows you to surf thousands of pedigrees by just clicking on the names of the dogs. As a user you can add more pedigrees to the database; tools and step by step instructions are always provided to make data entry simple and painless. You will have control over the pedigrees you enter, which means that nobody (except the administrators in exceptional cases) can change the data you enter. You can optionally make the pedigrees you enter editable by everyone, according to your criteria found under "Pedigrees Permissions" in the "Your Pedigrees" section under the each individual dog. This ensures that nobody will disrupt the work you have done. Note that as a user you are also responsible for what you post. If you are found to enter false pedigrees, or abuse the system, your account will be terminated. Your username is tied to the record and will be displayed on the pedigree so other users will know which user entered the pedigree into the database. If you have an issue with the data about that particular dog than you may edit it at any time. You will be able to contact other users in case you have questions. Communication also enables you to meet other users, and join efforts in donating and researching bloodlines in which you share an interest. Communication is carried through the forum's messaging system, which will allow you to send and receive messages to other users. Although your username will be widely accessible to other users, your personal information will be protected and won't be given out to anyone. We want to respect your identity and you can decide who knows who you are.

How to enter pedigrees?

Whether you are entering a single dog or a whole list of dogs you have to enter them one at a time. For example if you are entering an entire 7 generation pedigree, you should start with the very last generation and work your way towards the most recent dog. By starting in the last generation you should use the "search dog" feature to see if these dogs already exist in the database. By searching each of the dogs starting from the last generation you can determine which dogs are already in the database and which are not. If they are already in the database then you need not add them. If you searched for them and could not find the dog then you need to add those unfound dogs to the database. Make note of which dogs are already in the database and which ones are not. Start in the oldest generation with the first dog that is not in the database. Log into the site and go to the "Add Pedigrees" page. If you know the dogs sire and damn then enter the first few letters of their names into the "Search Sir" and "Search Dam" fields. This will populate search results for the dad and mom of the dog you are entering. Select the indicator next to the mom and dad's name (if found) of your dog. If you do not know the mom and dad of the dog you are entering then just leave the indicators on "Sire Unknown" and "Dam Unknown". Press the continue button. And fill out any/all information you know about the dog. Registered Name, Breed, and Sex are required fields. Everything else can be left blank if you do not know the information. When finished hit the "Register" button and continue going back to "Add Pedigrees" link to enter your next dog.

How to edit a dogs information

Only the user that entered the dog will be able to edit the dogs information, UNLESS that user has set the permissions to allow anyone to edit the dogs information. This is an option that a user whom entered the dog can change inside the “My Pedigrees” page. There is a tab labeled “Pedigree Permission’s” next to “offspring”, “siblings”, “pedstats”. If the user whom entered the dog has some of the information wrong or you would like to add some info about the dog and he has not allowed everyone to edit, you can post a new topic in forum under the Pedigrees Category. This will allow users and admin to make the changes. To edit a dogs information, you should notice an "edit" button located under the dogs information. By clicking this button you will be able to add/change sire and dam or any other information.
NOTE:You will not be able to type in the name of the sire and dam into the form. You will HAVE to search for the sire and dam by clicking on the "Search Sire and Dam" button.
